Shooting Nightscapes – Landscapes and Night Sky Photography with Jonathan Adams (Part 1) (6:30 PM PDT)
About This Workshop
This in-person workshop will consist of two Tuesday evening sessions on April 30 and May 14, 2024. Each session will run for three hours, from 6:30 - 9:30 PM. Please plan to attend both sessions. Signing up for Part 1 will enroll you in both sessions.
Please note that this workshop focuses on night photography, not deep-sky astrophotography.
Purpose of the Workshop
In this workshop you will learn techniques for photographing and post-processing nightscapes, combining wide angle landscapes with starry skies. These night sky images can include photographing the Milky Way, the moon, planets, the sun, star trails, as well as constellations, conjunctions and meteors showers.
In this workshop we will cover the following topics:
1. Composition for night photography
2. Choosing your foreground
3. Using apps to schedule nighttime shooting
4. Camera settings and techniques for combining landscapes with night sky features
5. Post-processing techniques to get the most from your image
This workshop has two three-hour sessions: Tuesday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 14, 2024. The first session will address techniques for photographing nightscapes. The second session explores post-processing techniques. In between these sessions, you are encouraged to try taking your own nightscape images for processing, weather permitting.
For the first session, you will need to be able to use your camera in manual mode. In the second session, Photoshop will be used to demonstrate post-processing. A knowledge of Photoshop is helpful, but not essential. You are welcome to bring your laptop and follow along as the post-processing is being done.
Our goal will be for you to learn how to produce a stunning nightscape image.

Butchart Gardens Alt Tuesday AM Field Trip (9:00 AM PDT)
Note TIME CHANGE 9:00am. Most of us know The Gardens well so no description. This should be a good time for tulips. We have been asked to come at opening time 9:00an, opening time so that we can use our tripods before the site gets busy. We should spread out to take our images and not block the pathways with our tripods. Entrance fee is $38.50, no discount for Seniors.
For lunch I suggest that we meet in the cafeteria.

Theme: People and creatures move themselves and articles around with a variety of conveyances. Can you capture something being moved and/or a unique method of transportation?

Year End Awards Gala - Celebrating 80 Years! (6:30 PM PDT)
Please join us to celebrate our 23/24 Year End Awards and to honour VCC's 80th anniversary. There will be cake, door prizes, and lots of ways to celebrate!
Please note that this event is IN PERSON ONLY. Doors open at 6:30 to mix and mingle. The program will get underway at 6:50.

Abkhazi Gardens Alt Tuesday AM Field Trip (10:00 AM PDT)
The Abkhazi Gardens were created in 1946 by Prince and Princess Abkhazi. The garden is known as 'the garden that love built' and was developed by Prince Nicolas Abkhazi and Princess Marjorie Abkhazi.
Management are holding a photo contest, they plan to feature 4 photos (one from each season in their Summerhouse) The photographers will be credited for their work. They also want to use a picture from each month in their calendar. If you are interested please contact Cherie Miltmore directly at 250-896-0864.

Motion -Tuesday AM Field Trip (10:00 AM PDT)
Photoshoot: Motion
Theme: Although photography captures only a moment, action can be implied by showing something or someone changing, shifting, moving... OR you can intentionally move your camera (ICM) to convey a different idea. Please make some form of motion part of your images for this theme.
